Welcome to Fifth Grade!

I wish to welcome all my new Fifth Grader’s to our class website. We are going to have a very exciting and eventful school year. As we get ready to begin, I recommend we give our brain’s a “warm-up”, similar to how you stretch before a sports game or complete a tutorial before a video game. This could be by picking up a book, playing online math activities, writing four short paragraphs about your favorite summer moments, or trying out our class’ Hall of Fame Challenge. I’ve posted some information/links below to help you get underway. I look forward to seeing you all the first day!

Here is a small sample of some things to be excited about: DARE, field trip, Colonial Characters, new online social studies curriculum (History Alive) with cool videos and animations, new math program (Go Math!) with fun games and activities, Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Hall of Fame, All-Star Math, science labs (ex: Elephant Toothpaste), and much more!

Brain Warm-Ups

  • Hall of Fame Challenge
  • Prodigy Math Game– the BEST online math game. You get to level up your character to fight fantasy creatures by completing math problems.
  • Fraction Planet– think Angry Birds meets fractions. Literally, it is developed by the creators of Angry Birds! How cool is that?!
  • Some books that I love and read:
    • Mouse on the Motorcycle by Beverly Clearly
    • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl
    • The Strange Case of Origami Yoda by Tom Angleberger
    • Holes by Louis Sachar
    • Coraline by Neil Gaiman
    • Guys Read: Funny Business by Jon Scieszka
